Project: Mary Jane Baby Booties Update

This is a follow up on the Mary Jane Booties post from earlier this month. I wanted to post videos on how to do some of the more "challenging", at least for knooby knitters, parts of this pattern.

I decided to start some for my niece. I haven't finished them yet, but here are some pics and videos that will help if you decide to take on this project. I will post a pic of the finished project later.

Project: Cute as a Button Scarf

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! I wanted to post this before Christmas, but it was a gift for my mother-in-law and I didn't want to spoil the surprise. I knew that I was going to give her a headband for Christmas, but I didn't know if I would knit her a scarf or a cowl to go along with it. I found the pattern for this scarf on the website below.

http://www.favecrafts.com/Knit-Hats-Gloves-Scarves/A-Green-Lace-Scarf

I liked the look and I also liked the fact that it wouldn't take very long. I only had 5 days to knit it, so I didn't have the time it would take for a more extensive project. When I say 5 days, that means nap time and after bed time. I have a three year old!

I did make the scarf a little wider than what it called for on the site. It called for 14 cast-on stitches and I did 20. I wanted it to be wide enough to sew on my I-cord flower and button.

Great beginner knitting project! Now I have to get back to my knitting. I'm working on a baby blanket for my sister that I LOVE! I will post the link to the pattern and pics of this project later.

Happy Knitting!

Project: Mary Jane Baby Booties

This was one of my first projects as a beginner knitter. I thought they were going to be hard, but they are not! I was able to give these as baby gifts to three of my preggo friends. They were all three having baby girls.

This is a free pattern from TLC Home.

http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/free-baby-bootie-knitting-patterns2.htm

The only part of the pattern that got tricky for this beginner was around Row 23 and specifically the left bootie. When it said to rejoin the yarn and cable cast-on 12 stitches I was lost.

I want to post my own video for this specific pattern, showing the rejoin and cable cast-on, but until then here is a helpful video I used to learn cable cast-on.

After Christmas, I will make another pair of these and post a help video for the tricky parts of the pattern. My first niece will be born in May and she definitely needs a pair of these precious booties!

Happy Knitting!

Project: Owlie Sleep Sack and Hat

This was a project that I loved! Who doesn't want to knit something precious for a newborn baby?!
I found this pattern on a blog that I really like.

The pictures on this blog are much better than mine. I never anticipated that I would be blogging about projects.

This is a great project for beginners. It was one of my first knitting in the round projects. The only tip that I have, which will seem really obvious for more experienced knitters, is to change to double-pointed needles when there are too few stitches to use a circular needle . It took me a few months to figure this out and I had some very tired hands by the end of my knitting in the round projects.
When you can't figure out what a knitting instruction within a pattern means, go to You Tube! I used You Tube to teach me how to knit. There are so many video tuto
rials that show you exactly what to do, it's great!

Happy Knitting!

Project: Cute as a Button Headband

My Mom doesn't like hats. I wanted to knit something warm for her head for Christmas, so I decided I needed a headband pattern. I Googled around and found this blog.

I loved the headband, but wanted to do something different for the flower. I perused the internet and found I-Cord flowers and loved that idea. This blog was the one I liked the most on I-Cord flowers.

Made it, put a button on it to hide the messy middle, and sewed it onto the headband. Voila! Fun Christmas present!
